Sunday afternoons can be pretty charming – especially if you get to watch a good play. And last Sunday was one such day.
That classic tale penned by the man himself – Rabindranath Tagore – was the essence of the play titled Chokher Bali – A grain of sand in the eye. The script, direction and the role of the protagonist was skillfully handled by Priyanka Shetty . The rest of the cast comprised of Bhaswant, Shweta Gupta, Aakash Sharma, Lalita Tekchandani, Shripriya and Manjunath all off whom did justice to the characters they portrayed.
A two hour play can be a bit lengthy but Chokher Bali’s tight script and inspired acting engaged the crowd. And what was brilliant, was the background score which comprised of the music of Anushka Shankar… which prompts me to use this word again – Brilliant.
What impressed the most is the fact that even though the Kyra stage was just the second time the spotlight fell on this play, it shows all the signs of a play that is destined to hit big stages all over. And hopefully, that will happen real soon.
Hats off to Priyanka for proving that you can hold a 9 to 5 job and still keep dreams alive. Two thumbs up to the cast and crew (the narrator did a great job as well).
This is just my insight on what I saw and I don’t want to slip in any spoilers but this is definitely worth a watch. And yes, Sunday Afternoon plays at KYRA are definitely IN!!
